In UE countries the CE mark is obligatory for electrical appliances. But differently form the CE gas mark issued only by a notified laboratory, the marking on the electrical appliance is placed based on self-certification through issuance of a CE declaration of conformity made directly by the manufacturer.
For the appliance in question, the manufacturer is required to have a technical file that contains:
- test report;
- accurate description of the appliance (drawings, photos, etc.)
- instructions for use and installation;

La certificazione degli apparecchi a gas è obbligatoria in Europa secondo varie direttive ed il certificato è emesso esculsivamente da un ente notificato (qual'è IMQ con numero 0051).
Nel certificato viene specificato chi è il costruttore dell'apparecchio, quali modelli sono certificati, quali sono i paesi di destinazione del prodotto e le categorie di gas utilizzabili. La certificazione gas, in sistema 1+, prevede la sorveglianza annuale con prelievo di prodotto da magazzino per verifica.
